Managing School Operations and Resources

The principal manages school operations and resources to ensure a safe and caring, and effective learning environment.

Assistant Principal

As Assistant Principal, I have not yet had the opportunity to help with school scheduling or timetables.  I look forward to this learning as I believe it is a nature fit with the way my mind works.  This year much of my experience and growth has been in day to day operations.

Acting Administration

I have been Acting Administrator whenever the Principal and Assistant Principal are out of the building.  This has given me opportunities to interact with staff, students, and parents in a manner that differs from my classroom interactions.  As each day unfolds I have to make decisions as to where to assign substitute teachers that have unassigned time (preps).  At times I have to move Education Assistants from their assigned positions to areas of greater need.  After each administration day, I send a document of notes to my Principal and Assistant Principals and I log the incidents into our Power School system.  When schedules allow, I meet and debrief with my administrators to find areas of growth.  These short meetings have grown my ability to make solid judgement calls and resolve issues as they arise.

I have enjoyed the learning this has afforded me; as any administrator knows, there is never a dull moment.

Math and Science Budget

Over the past 10 years at Iron Ridge Junior Campus, I have been involved with the subject budgets for Math and Science.  Each year I have had to balance the needs of up to 17 homeroom teachers and their requests.  Working within a small budget had led me to seek the input of all staff (whether they teach Math and Science or not).  This input is valuable; I try and meet as many requests as possible.  Because all staff are consulted, there is a strong shared responsibility to care for the department equipment.
