Leading a Learning Community

A leader nurtures and sustains a culture that supports evidence-informed teaching and learning.

Principal

I  involve my staff in many of the decisions made. Involvement can be informal surveys, one on one conversations, or larger group meetings. Seeking input from so many staff members can be both time consuming and challenging but allows for rich conversations.

Assistant Principal

As the assistant Principal of Iron Ridge Intermediate Campus, I have many administrative tasks but also teach math in a grade 4 and grade 6 classroom. I believe this connection to the students and classrooms helps me in understanding the issues and needs of our teachers.

Fresh Grade Reporting

I continue to work with staff in groups and one on one to increase capacity in Fresh Grade Reporting. This year we made a leap to allowing staff to use Fresh Grade as their report card system. I invested a lot of time bringing the staff along in small steps. I feel this was the best approach as so many staff were open to being taught and coached. I feel we have prepared our staff well for this implementation.

Learning in the Community

Our school was chosen to participate in the North American Occupational Safety and Health mock accident. We invited students from the Catholic school next door and parents form the community. It was another great example of community learning and connections.
