Leading a Learning Community
The principal nurtures and sustains a school culture that values and supports learning.
Assistant Principal
In my new role as Assistant Principal I not only have administrative duties but also teach a grade 3 class. I am deeply immersed in learning at a number of levels. I have been working with my grade team to set up and effectively implement this structure for math. Luckily for me, I was the only one on the team that was starting from scratch. With their guidance and help I was able to begin my Daly 5 / Cafe journey. In January, I joined a cohort of 5 other teachers from Iron Ridge Elementary School to attend the Daily 5 / Cafe sesion hosted by CARC. The intense two days of learning really helped me to solidify my understanding and further my growth as a teacher.
Beginning last year, I embraced a new software provided by our school board. I have been able to learn, and in turn teach others, how to integrate this powerful software. I have participated in presenting small PD sessions for staff of both Iron Ridge Junior and Elementary Campus.
I have been leading the use of the CRM software at Iron Ridge Elementray Campus. By acting as recorder duing the staff CRM meetings, I have been able to show staff the software in a very gentle manner. As the year has progressed, staff have come to me and asked me to show them how to add information and pull reports from the system. This has allowed our staff to take steps in building their CRM capacity.
Wolf Creek Learning Coach
As a learning coach I have had a number of opportunities to develop my leadership skills. I have led professional development sessions for our staff on a number of topics; including Excellent Learning Environment(s ELEs), understanding STAR data, understanding Provincial Achievement Test results, and school norms.
I have worked with most staff one on one to help them with unit planning (backwards by design) and developing all 12 ELEs, implementing manipulative based math lessons, using IXL to maximize student understanding, and integrating technology. I have worked with our grade 5 team to analyse their STAR literacy data and develop common lesson tools to address areas of focus.

I have team taught lessons in math, science, social and language arts. Team teaching has allowed staff and myself the opportunity to regroup class configurations with the help of an EA and provide very targeted lessons to students. I have led lessons allowing staff to watch my interaction with the students and the curriculum. I have provided support to lessons taught by other staff members and opportunity for feedback and reflection after the lesson.
Masters of Education, University of Alberta
I completed my Masters of Education in Educational Studies in 2008. My research focus was on involving students in the creation and assessment of their growth for their Adaptive Program Plan or Individual Program Plan.
